Stowe Resort Deal Fix Up

Apologies to any shredder who had their heart set on ripping Stowe during February 14–16 or February 20–22 with the generous Resort Deal in the February issue of TransWorld. The original deal stated, “valid all winter except December 25–January 1, February 17-19, and March 14-22.” A correction with the qualifying dates is now:

Valid all winter except February 14–22.

Stowe and TransWorld are still delivering the ultimate hook up and while we’re only human and make mistakes, we are positive that trading six days of riding in February for nine days in March isn’t a bad deal. So bust up there and make sure to still present the original TransWorld page at Stowe’s Mansfield Guest Services and enjoy a three-day lift ticket for $99!

For more info call 1-802-253-3000 or visit stowe.com

The nominees are:

Men’s Reader’s Choice:
Eiki Helgason
Scott Lago
Travis Rice

Women’s Reader’s Choice:
Jamie Anderson
Desiree Melancon
Marie-France Roy

Congratulations to all the nominees!

Riders’ Poll will be moving to Denver next year. so this year’s farewell to Vegas promises to be quite a night. Adding to the excitement are two live performances by Volcom Entertainment’s Candi Koded featuring Jamie Lynn and Tweak Bird following the award show. This year, we are also giving back to one of our favorite charities, Protect Our Winters (POW) by offering a unique opportunity for companies to purchase a stage-side table at the show. POW believes that while alone we can’t solve climate change, the winter sports community as a whole has a responsibility to save the lifestyle we rely on. Don’t miss the opportunity to enjoy the show and help the environment too. For more info on buying a table, please contact your TransWorld sales rep.

Huge thanks to presenting sponsor GORE-TEX® and sponsors New Era, Red Bull, and Namco Games/We Ski & Snowboard for their support.

click on the highlighted live links as you read.

What are you doing this winter?

It’s kind of all up in the air right now, but I’m definitely trying to ride as much as I can and have a lot of fun. It’s going to be in some more contests this year since I’m doing all the Dew Tour contests. I will film a bunch of webisodes throughout the season, as well. But as far as filming, it’s not decided yet.

What do you need to do to push things—to step it up a notch for yourself?

First of all, I need to stay healthy. I just bruised my ankle a couple of days ago, so I have to chill on the couch for a bit now … I get some time to think about some new things to do on my snowboard now and when I’m back in business, it’s time to see if I can man-up enough. For sure it’s important to ride with people who push you and who you have a good time riding with.

Photo Andy Wright

Do you have some sorta new trick up your sleeve?

I don’t have any new ones yet, but I’ve been thinking about a couple. Just waiting for the pow to see if I can give it a try. For sure want to try some kind of a backside double cork this winter.

So you don’t really have plans already lined up?

As far as filming it’s not lined up at this point. But I almost have the plan ready. Looks like it’s going to be pretty hectic as far as traveling this year because of all the contests. It usually never follows the plan when it comes to traveling, so it’s better not to have one. One thing I really want to do is to get a couple of weeks in Europe this winter.

Who do you like to ride with the most?

I really like riding with Torstein Horgmo. He’s always super stoked on riding whether it’s park or pow. He’s a perfectionist when it comes to style and is always fun to watch. Marius Otterstad is always fun to ride with as well.

Do you use any snowboard gear that doesn’t have your signature on it?

No, that’s totally unacceptable. Ha Ha!

How are you involved in the process of designing your pro model gear?

I usually have the original idea of how I want the final product to be. Throughout the year I have some design meetings with the different brands I ride for. The designers listen to my ideas and thoughts and start to design the product thereafter. It’s really cool to follow the whole process of making my pro model stuff. I never even thought I was going to have any.

Photo: Chris Wellhausen

What’s it gonna take to win the X Games slopestyle this season?

NEW YORK – January 7, 2009 – The Winter Dew Tour kicks off its inaugural season on Thursday, January 8 at Mount Snow Resort in West Dover, Vermont.

DCP Joins The North Face Athlete Team
The North Face continues its big mountain legend, welcoming one of the world’s best riders to its team.

SAN LEANDRO, California — January 7, 2009 — The North Face, the world’s premier supplier of authentic, innovative and technically advanced outdoor apparel, equipment and footwear, today announced snowboarder David Carrier-Porcheron, commonly known as DCP, has joined its athlete team. The North Face has a team of more than 60 professional global athletes which includes snowboarders, skiers, rock climbers, mountaineers, and endurance runners.

“DCP embodies the passion of The North Face,” said Aaron Carpenter, Vice President of Marketing for The North Face. “Not only does he inspire others to explore, he is paving the way for future generations. He pushes the envelope with his riding style, and remains rooted to his outdoor and environmental passions.”

DCP has been snowboarding for more than 18 years. He has starred in films by Kingpin, Treetop, The Gathering Collective and Mack Dawg Productions. In addition DCP has been featured on the Weather Channel’s popular show, “Epic Conditions.” Though filming is his primary focus, DCP still enjoys competition. He took third place in the 2008 Quicksilver Natural Selection: All Mountain Invitational at Jackson Hole.

A world-renowned rider, DCP has an arsenal of freestyle skills that he currently brings with him into the backcountry, where he spends most of his snowboard season.

“Change is good and very exciting,” said DCP. “It is a perfect alignment to work with a company that focuses its products on what snowboard athletes need and demand. I will be working alongside The North Face’s RD&D teams to help develop and create advanced products and collections.”

Canadian-born DCP splits his time between Squamish, British Columbia, Vail, Colorado, and Costa Rica, with his wife and daughter. An avid surfer, with the 2008 Quebec Open title (surfing) under his belt, DCP also skateboards and mountain bikes. Inspired by deep powder, big cliffs and bluebird powder days with the backcountry to himself, he takes his love of snow and outdoors and translates his passion to the environment. Committed to preserving the places he, his friends and family enjoy, DCP works to plant trees and off-set carbon footprints.

“The North Face athlete team as a whole is beyond inspiring,” said DCP. “I’m stoked to start the next chapter alongside these legendary athletes.”

For 40 years The North Face has teamed up with the world’s finest mountaineers, alpinists, climbers, skiers, snowboarders and endurance adventurers who have defined the limits of what is humanly possible. The North Face Athlete team works closely with Research, Design & Development, creating innovative designs that push new technologies and inspire cutting-edge products.

11th Annual Cholula Triple Air Show Spices up Mountain High

Wrightwood, CA (January 7, 2009) – Mountain High is importing a triple shot of big air flavor when the 11th Annual Cholula Triple Air Show returns to Wrightwood on Saturday, February 7, 2009. The spicy big air contest is Mountain High’s largest event of the season presented by Monster Energy, Powder & Sun Boardshop, Jarritos Soda, and title sponsor Cholula Hot Sauce. These partners bring a hot $25,000 cash purse to the richest “one day triple air contest” in the nation, complete with live DJ and vendor village for the public.

First held in snowboarding’s method-grabbing heyday of 1998, the Cholula Triple Air Show was created as a corner-stone event for Mountain High. The legacy of big-name competitors who have stepped up to the hottest big air event north of the border include Shaun White, Kevin Pearce, Matt Hammer, Keegan Valaika, Hana Beaman, and Laurie Currier.

Registration for the Cholula Triple Air Show will take place from 7:30-9:30am in Big Pines Base Lodge at Mountain High West. Entry is $150 on a first come, first served basis on the day of the event. There are two divisions: men’s open and women’s open. The men’s division will pay through sixteenth place and the women’s division through sixth place. All competitors receive breakfast courtesy of Mountain High and lunch compliments of Wahoo’s Fish Tacos.

The contest starts at 10am on the run Lower Chisolm. The qualifying round will be a best of two runs format on a triple jump lineup with hits ranging from 50-75 feet. The top 16 men and top six women advance to the single run finals. Check out the exclusive webcast from REELcomp at reelcomp.com.
